Last week we held our annual Lit Fest & were lucky to have three visiting authors/speakers who delivered exciting, engaging and lively assemblies/workshops to students across years 7-10.
Dreadlock Alien is the former Birmingham Poet Laureate who has a passion for live literature poetry. Dreadlock managed to get students & staff beat boxing & take part in a poetry slam. The work they produced in his workshop was brilliant. “The first and last questions I ask are ‘Who thinks poetry is boring?’ All hands are up at the start of the session and none are up at the end!”
Bali Rai was raised as a working-class Punjabi in Leicester. His experience of growing up as a working-class boy are often reflected in his books and his books remain some of the most popular in our library. Bali delivered 3 assemblies & one workshop to our year 8 students where they discussed their ambitions for the future.
Karl Nova is one of the UK’s leading poets and hip hop artists delivering his work in his own unique, witty and energetic style.
His workshops with year 8 & 9 students was met with great enthusiasm from our students & they produced some excellent pieces of poetry.
Karl was so impressed with 4 of our year 8 boys that he gave them a signed copy of his book.
